REVIEWS:
1) Super easy set-up: This a fine H/K product, great value. I"m using this AVR with H/K speakers including a 12",200 watt sub-woofer.
Positives: easy set-up, great directions, great sound. H/K"s EzSet/EQ feature is super because one does not have to calibrate and configure manually, which to do correctly, requires an SPL meter. I doubt most consumers have one of these! Try to do it by "ear" an your wasting time. USE THIS FEATURE!
Negatives: Included speaker brackets work fine but are rather difficult to work with because of small size. If you are setting your speakers on shelves you don"t have to worry.

I have the XBox 360 connected to the H/K AVR 147 with an HDMI cable and a Rocketfish digital optical cable. The HDTV connects to H/K AVR 147 with another Rocketfish digital optical cable. The H/K AVR 147 connects to the HDTV with a Monster HDMI cable.

I first considered H/K for my home theater system because I have a H/K audio system in my car. This is my first home theater setup. The room I set the system up in is the perfect size for a 5.1 channel system. The directions are easy to follow and setup did not take long. It is really helpful having the speaker wires and AVR 147 inputs color coded. H/K customer service is very friendly, helpful, and fast (I asked if it was possible to remove the feet on the AVR 147. It is, but H/K does not recommend it.). Everything worked very well as soon as I turned it on. The audio and video quality is awesome. The blue volume knob looks really cool. The display on the AVR 147 is easy to read and very informative. The one complaint I have is: because I am using an HDMI cable to connect the AVR 147 to my HDTV, I do not get the on screen menus for the AVR 147 unless I connect a component cable specifically for the on screen menus. For a 5.1 channel system, at this price, with HDMI connectivity, I highly recommend this system.
3) Awesome Receiver: Best Receiver I"ve owned to date. Those of you who think that this receiver does not have the Watts Needed to shake the house down, "THINK AGAIN". 100% PoWeRhOuSe!!!! I replaced a Pioneer Elite reciever 110 watts x5 and it never sounded as clear, loud, distortion free as the AVR-147. Great receiver for the small price. Dolby Digital is fantastic, as well as the other surround fields. Must Buy this product... EZsetUp.. sucks though but it"s easy setting the speakers yourself. 5stars in my book..
4) Suprised for a Harmon Kardon product: Very surprised with the performance and limited capabilities of this receiver. Intermittent response operating the unit by pushing buttons on the receiver or using the remote. With brand new batteries, the remote would not even increase the volume. I programmed my universal remote with the Harmon Kardon code and the volume would change - sometimes. Ipod bridge only works with their dock. I have an apple dock that I use which is not compatible with the receiver. Not enough audio inputs to hook my dock up. Few speaker inputs, in order to get 7 speaker inputs rather then 5 you have to spend a considerable amount more. I guess that"s okay to dish out the extra cash but you can get a Sony with similar sound quality, 7 speaker input, more audio inputs for the same price as the AVR147. I have to return the receiver because of the remote issue and I do not trust another replacement. I"ll stick with Sony for the money.
5) Best 5.1 channel receiver: I bought this receiver few months ago and understood the difference between cheap 5.1 channel receiver and top of the line 5.1 channel receiver. This receiver works great with any kind of speakers, but I would highly recommend KLIPSCH Quintent III speakers and 10" Sub-Woofer.
